Asphalt Calculator — Tons, Cost & Square Footage
Skip the back-of-napkin math. Enter your dimensions below and get exact tonnage, cubic yards, and material cost in seconds. Used by contractors and homeowners on 200,000+ projects.
How to Use the Calculator
Three simple steps to professional-grade estimates.
Enter Your Dimensions
Measure length and width in feet. For depth, most driveways use 3–4 inches; parking lots 4–6 inches.
Choose Your Material
Standard hot mix asphalt weighs 145 lb per cubic foot. Millings and cold patch have different densities — we've pre-loaded the right values.

The Asphalt Tonnage Formula — Explained Simply
The standard formula for calculating asphalt tonnage is:
Where:
- Length and Width are in feet
- Depth is converted from inches to feet (÷ 12)
- Density = 145 lb/ft³ for hot mix (standard)
- 2,000 = pounds per ton (short ton)

Driveway: 50 ft long × 12 ft wide × 3 inches deep
